Raised to the Status of a Society of Common Life 

As the community grew in number and its services were widely appreciated and acknowledged by the Bishops and people of the places where they worked, the community of the Nirmala Dasis, till now only a Pious Union, was, at the recommendation and request of Bishop Joseph Kundukulam, raised by the Sacred Congregation for the Oriental Churches, Rome, to the status of a Society of Common Life, on August 05, 1980. In preparation for this, a modified Constitution for the Society was approved by Bishop Mar Joseph Kundukulam on 20th May 1980 (Order no.667/80b).

Raised to Major Archiepiscopal Status 

As requested by the Superior General Sr. Mercy Thattil on 14th August 2006, after having received the favorable opinion of Archbishop Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy of the Archdiocese of Trichur, the Society of Nirmala Dasi Sisters (SNDS) was raised to Major Archiepiscopal Status by His Beatitude Varkey Cardinal Vithayathil, the Major Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, on 23rd November 2006.
